Philip Sloan Powers, 86, of Richmond, Va., died peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jacin Powers.

He is survived by his wife, Vada Gear Powers; three sons, Philip S. Powers Jr., Timothy W. Powers and Scott E. Powers; four grandchildren, Tamra, Bryan Scott, Kevin and Dominic; four great-grandchildren, Sara, Jonathon, Tyler and Haley.

A graduate of Davis & Elkins College, Mr. Powers was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and later served his country as a civilian in the European headquarters, U.S. EUCOM, in Paris, France, and Stuttgart, Germany.

He was a member of the American Church of Paris and the Colonial Dance Club of Richmond.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., Richmond, Va. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Mausoleum Chapel at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richmond Firefighters Association, 2302 West Main St., Richmond, Va. 23220.
