PHYLLIS MARIE CORLEY SKIDMORE, age 96 years, a resident of Valley Bend, WV, departed this life early Wednesday morning, February 6, 2013 at the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center at Elkins, WV.

She was born Tuesday, February 8, 1916 at Randolph County, WV a daughter of the late Russell B. and Rachel L. Wagner Corley. On April 6, 1933, she was married to Thomas Freeman Skidmore, who preceded her in death. Surviving are three sons Thomas R. Skidmore and wife Betty, Elkins, William J. Skidmore, and David A. Skidmore and wife Tess, all of Valley Bend; one daughter, Connie Clark and husband John, Bel Air, MD; three brothers, Aderian Corley, Cleveland, OH, Donald Corley, and Homer J. Corley, both of Akron, OH; one sister, Shirley Baldwin, Akron, OH; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-nine great grandchildren; and eleven great great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are four brothers; Deward, William, Kenneth, Gary Corley; one daughter, Kathleen Skidmore Munka; two grandsons, Ricky Skidmore and Bradley Russell Skidmore.

Phyllis attended the schools of Junior, Gage, Meriden and Weaver, had worked for the United States Postal Service at Mill Creek, retiring in 1968.

Even in the service of her fellow man, Phyllis Corley Skidmore was lovingly called by many names. Throughout her life she seamlessly maintained the roles of wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, missionary and caretaker.

She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a staunch advocate for humanity. She loved life, family, friends, faith, fun and hard work, but most of all she loved children. She always said “I know that my heaven will be filled with Children.”

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 8 PM, Friday. On Saturday February 9th Mrs. Skidmore will be moved to The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints where Final Rites will be conducted at 1 PM. Bishop Ralph Bennett will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Hospice Care Corporation 169 Diamond St. Elkins, WV 26241.
