Ralph William Cox Sr., 57, a resident of Route 3, Elkins, departed this life at 11:48 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2002, at the Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown. He had been in declining health for the past 13 years and death was attributed to heart failure.

He was born May 5, 1944, at Elkins, a son of the late Lundy Davis Cox and Mecca Mae Peppo Cox.

On March 17, 1967, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Bonnie Faye Armentrout, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Ralph William “Billy” Cox Jr. and wife, Frances, Glenmore community, Elkins, Richard Lee Cox and wife, Mary Beth, Belington, and David Paul Cox, Huttonsville; twin daughters, Shelly Ann Canfield and husband, Eric, Montrose, and Kelly Lynn Carpenter and husband, Ronald, Glenmore community, Elkins; one brother, Nuncio George Cox, Pittsburgh, Pa.; one sister, Betty Louise Caywood and husband, Larry, Elkins; one grandson, Justin Cody Cox; five granddaughters, Jennifer Renee, Tara Jo, Heather Nicole and Kimberly Dawn Cox and Megan Lynn Carpenter; and a cousin, Rosemarie Peppo Wright, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by one infant brother.

He attended the schools of Randolph County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War and was in the U.S. Army Reserves for 14 years. He had worked for the water treatment department for the city of Elkins for 14 years. He was a member of H.W. Daniel’s Post 29, American Legion and the Tygart’s Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church and was an avid outdoorsman.

Friends will be received at Lohr-barb-vance Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Friday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Walter H. Blough will officiate and interment will follow at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale, where the H.W. Daniel’s Post 29, American Legion and the Tygart’s Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites.
