Randall “Randy” Allen Smith, 59, a resident of Weston, passed from this life Monday, March 10, 2014 in Shinnston. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected. Randy was born Monday, January 10, 1955 in Elkins, a son of the late Harvey and Phyllis Smith. He was twice married, first to Cathy Jones and then Nikki Browning. Left to cherish Randy’s memory is one daughter, Tarra Sherrard and husband Steve of Weston, two brothers, Denny Smith and wife Patty of Elkins and Larry Smith and wife Joyce of Mill Creek, two sisters, Connie Light and husband Earl of Mill Creek and Glenna “Sis” Haddix of OH, and two grandchildren, Austin Sponaugle and Savanna Sherrard, both of Weston. Preceding Randy in death besides his parents was one daughter, Erica Smith and one brother, Glenn “Sonny” Smith. Randy attended the schools of Randolph County and graduated from Tygarts Valley High School. Randy worked in the coal industry for over forty years as a miner and a superintendent. He thoroughly enjoyed sports, especially basketball. Randy played baseball and basketball for Tygart Valley High. He was active in youth sports, coached little league baseball and served as President of the Lewis County Little League. Randy never missed any of his grandson’s games or practices. He also never missed anything that his granddaughter was involved with. Randy will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He was truly a one of a kind man. He attended Horizon Church in Lost Creek. Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Friday from 6P-8P. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00A. Pastor Dave Cunningham will officiate and interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville.
