Raymond Elsworth Bolyard, 60, a resident of Route 2, Philippi, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 25, 2003, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following a brief illness. Though disabled since a mine accident in 1978, his death was unexpected.

He was born March 7, 1943, at Tunnelton in Preston County, the son of the late Josiah B. and Nora Elizabeth Nice Bolyard.

Surviving are one son, Raymond Junior Bolyard and wife, Shannon Kay, of Philippi; two daughters, Penny Kay Canfield and husband, Eric, and Mary A. Bolyard, all of Philippi; five brothers, William Bolyard of Philippi, Pete Bolyard of Morgantown, Lester Bolyard of North Lima, Ohio, Paul Bolyard of Pennsylvania, and Lawrence Bolyard of Tunnelton; two sisters, “Dolly” Marie Knotts of Tunnelton, Katherine Bodkins of Tennessee; three granddaughters, Dylan Kay Bolyard, Carrington Tinakay Bolyard and Alynne Marie Bolyard; and two grandsons, Raymond Junior Bolyard II and Brock Adam Canfield.

He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Isabella Halbritter, Ellen Hudson, Stella May Bolyard, Ester Jane Bolyard and Ann Louise Bolyard; and by five brothers, Guy Bolyard, Cecil Bolyard, Edward Lee Bolyard, John Albert Bolyard and Harry Bolyard.

Mr. Bolyard was a disabled coal miner. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 1289.

Friends may call at the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and at the Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted from the Browning Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday with Pastor William Warnick officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery at Tunnelton. Stemple & Forman Funeral Home and the Browning Funeral Home are entrusted with arrangements.
