Rella Vivian Poling, 80 of Parsons, died Aug. 7, at Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to respiratory failure.

She was born Nov. 4, 1920 at Parsons, a daughter of the late Luther Guy and Laura Alice Carr George. On Jan. 27, 1940, at Red House, she was married to Roy Thomas Poling, who preceded her in death during 1948.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas Luther Poling, Parsons, Robert Dale Sr. (and Sharon Jean) Poling, Parsons, William Roy (and Betty Jean) Poling, Florida; a daughter, Sharon Vivian (and Ed) Phillips, Parsons; a brother, Calvin “Bud” (and Retha) George, Kentucky; three sisters, Thressa Wilson, Kingsville, TX, Ruth Sherman, Berlin, NJ, and Gelnda Poling, Parsons; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Toy Loughry, Virginia Williams and one great-granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Poling.

She attended the school of Tucker County, was an employee of the former Tucker County Hospital and an employee of the former E.J. Price Grocery Store of Parsons for many years. She was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church of Parsons.

Friends will be received at the Barb-Greenlief Funeral Home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, Aug. 9, where final rites will be conducted Friday, Aug. 10, at 11 am. The Rev. David Fuller will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery, Parsons. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the First United Methodist Church, First Street, Parsons, WV, 26287 or the American Lung Association, PO Box 2980, Charleston, WV 25339-3980.
