Rettie Newman Rettie Newman, 72, of North Canton, passed away peacefully, on Friday, March 23rd, in the Aultman Hospital, Canton, following a six month illness. She was born at Philippi, on May 11, 1939, and was preceded in death by her mother, Laura (Mayle) Croston; by her husband, Fred Newman on December 26, 1997; by five sisters, Sygurnie Newman, Miranda Mayle, Orleans Dalton, Isabella Newman, and Evelenie Kennedy; and by three brothers, Edgar, Jethro, and Nickodemes Croston. Surviving are two daughters, Peggy Mayle, Philippi, Betty Newman, N. Canton; one sister, Violine Kennedy, Philippi; one brother, Amon Croston, Canton; two grandchildren, Michele (Gary) McCord and Matthew (Crystal) Mayle, both of Philippi; and a great-granddaughter, Emma McCord. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 28th at the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi, with the Rev. Terry Newman officiating. Interment will follow in the Welch Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the Waltner – Simchak Funeral Home in Canton and from 2:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home.
