Richard “Alan” Weiford, age 60 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Monday, April 11, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Alan was born December 6, 1961 in Elkins, a son of the late Peter Earl Weiford and Mary Louise Tinney Weiford.

He was also preceded in death by several aunts and uncles. On June 27, 1981 in Elkins, he was married to Teresa “Terri” Knick who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Kristina Weiford Yokum (DJ) of Gilman, Joseph Alan Weiford (Alexis) of Elkins and Sara Anne Weiford and companion Chris Wyche of Elkins. Also surviving is one brother, Philip Earl Weiford (Vickie) and a very special granddaughter who he dearly loved. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Alan was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1980 and attended Davis & Elkins College. He worked most of his life as a driver. He was most proud of the time he worked with the Randolph County Schools as a bus operator. He cherished the children he transported and was especially proud of the awards he garnered at the West Virginia State Bus Road-E-0. In addition to the State Bus Road-E-O, he organized the bus road-e-o on the county level for many years. He loved taking extra-curricular trips, especially the band and often told many stories of the trips and students he had transported. He also enjoyed the time he spent with the Randolph County Emergency Medical Services as an EMT/Driver.

Until his illness, Alan liked to hunt, fish and especially enjoyed yard work. He loved his children dearly and loved spending time with them. He was always telling anyone that would listen how proud he was of them and their accomplishments and enjoyed working with his son on their vehicles. He never knew a stranger and was always ready to help anyone in need. He will be remembered for his smile, laughter, and the many stories and jokes he told.

Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, April 15, 2022 from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Phil Ryder officiating. Interment will follow at Elkins Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research, 1820 W. Webster Avenue, Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60614 or to the American Stroke Foundation, 6405 Metcalf Avenue, Suite 214, Overland Park, KS 66202 in memory of Alan.
