Richard Allen “Dick” Pyles, age 76 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Monday evening, October 18, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice. He had been in declining health.
He was born Tuesday, July 24, 1945 at Portsmouth, VA a son of the late Charles Howard and Mary Elizabeth Stalnaker Pyles. On December 23, 1967 at the Highland Park United Methodist Church at Elkins, WV he was married to the former Virginia Marie “Jenny” Pingley, who survives. Also surviving are surviving are one son, Charles Allen Pyles and wife Jana of Mannington; one daughter, Cynthia Elaine Jack and husband Daniel of Prestonsburg, KY; two grandsons, Kirkland Charles Pyles of Erie, PA, and Logan Chase Arbogast of Prestonsburg, KY; two granddaughters, Jenifer Marie McCoy and Courtney Rennee McCoy, both of Elkins; and two great grandchildren, Abby Taylor and T. J. Taylor; one brother, Marion Pyles and wife Betty of Erlanger, KY; two sisters, Geneva “Sue” Walters of Canton, OH, and Luwana Smith and husband Jim of Elkins; and a special aunt, Helen Stalnaker of Beverly.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1963, and was a veteran of the U. S. Army from 1964 to 1970, serving with the 547th Engineering Batallion. Dick was a lifetime member of the H. W. Daniels Post # 29, American Legion, the Border Legion with the 14th Armory Calvary, and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a lifetime member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church. He retired in 2003 from Randolph County Schools as a School Bus Operator.
Dick enjoyed life to the fullest. He was always kind and giving to others and never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. Dick will be missed by his two dogs, Thena and Bruno.
Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 7 PM, Thursday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Friday, October 22, 2021 at 11 AM. The Reverend Curlie Ray, Jr. and the Reverend Paul Thompson will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville, WV where full military honors will be accorded by members of the WV National Guard Honor Guard Program, the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 46 Charles Street, Elkins, WV 26241.
