Richard L. Nelson, age 71 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in the Davis Memorial Hospital. He was born January 5, 1941 in Elkins a son of the late Mary Armentrout Bowers who resided at Franklin, WV. Richard was raised at Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School in 1958 and from Morgantown Business College in 1959. He worked in the Pendleton County USDA-aSC Office from February 1960 until May 1969, when he transferred to the USDA-aSC Personnel Office in Washington, DC. In August 1971, he accepted a position with the District of Columbia Personnel Office where he was employed until he received early retirement on November 30, 1994. In May 1995, he moved to Elkins where he currently resided. Surviving is an uncle, William S. Armentrout of Elkins and several cousins including Timothy Armentrout and wife Joyce and Amy of Summersville, WV, Katelyn Walkup and husband Jon of Ohio and Mark Armentrout of Centreville, VA. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Reed Bowers and one cousin, Teresa Armentrout. Richard’s request for cremation has been honored. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 pm Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Hollis G. Dodge officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Ave., Belington, WV 26250 in memory of Richard. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Richard L.
