Richard Ward Parsons, 85, a resident of Hambleton, passed from this life on Monday, December 21, 2020 at his home.

He was born at this same address.

Richard was born on Saturday, October 5, 1935, in Hambleton, a son of the late Daryl Lovell Parsons and Hazel Irene Shaffer Parsons.

He had married Norma Lee Parsons in 1958 and had been divorced.

Left to cherish Richard’s memory is a son, Roger Parsons and wife Phyllis and a special granddaughter, Nevaeh of Danbury, NC, two stepchildren, Rev. Neil Parsons and wife, Judy, of Parsons, and Darla Rapp and husband, John of Davis, three grandchildren, Nicholas Parsons, Shanna Tacy and husband, Evan, and Michael Parsons and wife, Hannah, seven great grandchildren, Logan, Liam, Ayden, Tamden, Rogan, and Elliott, and four step grandchildren, and five step great-grandchildren, two sisters, Jo Anne Sakal and Donna Lawrence, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Richard in death besides his parents was a son, Michael Parsons, a sister, Jean Gilmore, and a great grandchild, Serenity,

Richard was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1953 and was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served as an airplane engine mechanic where he was first in his class.

He was stationed in Hawaii and Japan from 1955 to 1959.

He had worked as a diesel engine mechanic for several companies including D&W Truck Lines and Ryder Truck Rentals from which he retired.

He was instrumental in starting the Carolina Aviation Museum which he dearly loved.

In 2008, he received the Esprit Award from the Charlotte Aviation Historical Society.

Richard’s request for cremation will be honored. A memorial service and interment of his ashes will be held at a later date.
