Robert “Bob” Edward Conners, Jr., age 72 years, a resident of Beverly, WV departed this life Thursday morning, September 16, 2021 at Lavender Fields Assisted Living in Beverly, WV with his loving family at his side and under care of WV Caring. He had been in declining health for the past four months.
Bob was born Sunday, December 5, 1948 in Glendale, WV a son of the late Robert Edward Conners, Sr., and Wilda Virginia Hinerman Conners. On August 9, 1969 at the Presbyterian Church in Beverly, WV he was married to the former Linda Jeanne Wood, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Melissa Green and husband William of Ruffs Dale, PA; three grandchildren, Kacey Nicole Green, Dustin William Green, and Skylar Rae Green; one sister, Beverly Ruble of Wheeling; three sisters-in-law, Anita Gordon and husband Jack of Chadds Ford, PA, Ann Keeney and husband Steve of Rainelle, WV, and Dawn Swecker and husband Arden of Beverly, WV; six nieces, Amanda Reese and husband Matt, Hannah Fincham and husband Derek, Jill Gordon and husband Dan Malkoun, Lisa Clute and husband Jeff; Sarah Doerner and husband Brandon, and Lori Bazar and husband Ray; three nephews, John Keeney and wife Celena, David Shockey and companion Marc, and James Robert “J.R.” Shockey and wife Erika; and several great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are one granddaughter, Karissa Renee Green, one niece, Kimberly Shockey; and two brothers-in-law, George “Bud” Ruble and David Shockey, Sr.
Bob was a graduate of Sherrard High School at Sherrard, WV and was a graduate of West Virginia University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Parks & Recreation and a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling. He had worked in Customer Service for several years for AT&T and Baltimore Gas & Electric. In earlier years he worked in Student Affairs at Potomac State College. For 25 years he was an active member of Camp Chapel United Methodist Church in Baltimore, MD. He was a member and elder in the Beverly Presbyterian Church the past 10 years. In his retirement, he served on the Beverly Planning Commission and was a volunteer employee of Canaan Valley Gas Company. He was a member and former President of the Tygart Valley LIONS Club where he was affectionately known as “Baltimore Bob.” He enjoyed visiting with people, camping with good friends, and hunting with his daughter, especially during deer season. He was an avid Baltimore Ravens and WVU fan, and looked forward to every “game day.” He loved spending time with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
Mr. Conners’ request for cremation was honored. A Graveside Service for family and friends will be held at 10:30AM, Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the Beverly Cemetery at Beverly, WV. The Rev. Rich Cardot will officiate and inurnment will follow. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Tygart Valley LIONS Club special projects, 3154 Seneca Trail, Beverly, WV 26253, or Beverly Presbyterian Church, PO Box 206, Beverly, WV 26253.
