Robert Eugene Brown, 76, of Hutchinson, died suddenly at 12:40 a.m., Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born Aug. 30, 1927, at Enterprise, a son of the late Benjamin Harris and Ivy Murphy Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Zelda Marie Brown.

Mr. Brown is also survived by one son, Ancil Lynn Brown of Hutchinson; one daughter, Zelda Sawyers of Hutchinson; two brothers, Benjamin Brown Jr. of Enterprise and Pastor Tom Brown of Shinnston; three grandchildren, Joey, Davie and Crystal Sawyers; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Edwards, and five brothers, Calvin, Raymond, James, Jack and Charles Brown.

Mr. Brown graduated from Shinnston High School in 1945, after which he joined the Army and served in the Dentistry Branch.

He was first employed by the Clark Coal Co. of Fairmont and then the Clenchfield Coal Co. at the Dola Mine.

He later was employed at the Robinson Run Mine No. 95.

Mr. Brown was the caretaker of the Enterprise IOOF Cemetery for 40 years.

He was Methodist by faith and was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 209 of Enterprise for the last 52 years.

He was also a member of the Encampment Lodge of Adamston.

Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home in Shinnston today from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Tursday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tom Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Enterprise IOOF Cemetery.
