Robert Bryan Kiser, of Buckhannon, passed away on Dec. 31, 2020.

He was born in Elkins, on March 22, 1948, and moved to Buckhannon seven years later when his father took the position of director of admissions at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

During his youth, he participated in Boy Scouts, 4-h and sports. He graduated from Buckhannon-upshur High School in 1966 and West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1970 with a degree in business. He held several positions in sales before he started working for Health and Human Resources in Child Protective Services. He went on to become the youth services supervisor for Randolph County before his retirement.

Bob was an avid photographer and spent many hours in nature capturing it’s splendor. He traveled all over the state of West Virginia photographing covered bridges, which his brother, Bill, turned into pen and ink drawings.

These were compiled into a 1986 calendar that preserved this aspect of West Virginia history. These drawings were later printed on note cards that were sold as a fundraiser for the Buckhannon-upshur High School band when Bob’s son, Robert, was drum major.

Bob enjoyed writing poetry and had a selection published in Today’s Best Poems edited by Oddie Law Cole and published in 1980. Bob enjoyed traveling and exploring with his children when they were little. He loved watching all professional sports, but was especially an avid football fan, the Steelers being his favorite team. He was very knowledgeable about current events and politics, always engaging family members in discussions.

Bob exhibited a wonderful sense of humor and cared for others more than himself. He had an inquisitive mind that was always buzzing with ideas.

Bob was the son of the late Raymond William and Bula Verdella Brady Kiser. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Kiser; and one brother-in-law, Ted Brown.

He is survived by one son, Robert William Kiser of Buckhannon; one daughter, Summer Hiltner and husband, Caleb, of Buckhannon; one grandson, Trevor Haygood Kiser of Buckhannon; three sisters, Cheryl Kiser Brown of Pulaski, Tennessee, Sandy Sheahan of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Suzanne Haas of Buckhannon; one sister-in-law, Ruth Kiser of Keyser; two nieces, Johanna Haas and husband, Shae Davidson, of Murphysboro, Illinois, and Susan Covault of Indianapolis, Indiana; seven nephews, Ted Brown and wife, Stephanie, and Tyler Brown, all of Birmingham, Alabama, Matthew Kiser and fiancee, Christain Redman, Michael Kiser and wife, April, Jeremiah Kiser and wife, Brittany, and Brian Vanmeter and wife, Sarah, all of Keyser, and Matthew Haas of Portland, Oregon; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
