Robert H. Bob Reger 1912-2002 Obituary

Robert H. “Bob” Reger, a lifelong resident of Buckhannon, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was the only child of the late Elvie R. and Mollie Lewis Reger, having been born May 3, 1912, and recently celebrated his 90th birthday with an open house hosted by his family. He was a descendant of a pioneer family in Central West Virginia, who came to this country in 1737.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwen Finlayson Reger, whom he married on Sept. 19, 1937; and one son, William L. Reger, who died in Vietnam on Nov. 8, 1969.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert H. Reger Jr. and Betsy, Vienna, John E. “Jack” Reger and Frani of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and James P. Reger of San Diego, Calif.; two grandsons, Michael Reger and Grayson Reger; and two granddaughters, Julie Scrignoli and Holly Reger.

Mr. Reger was a well known Central West Virginia wholesale businessman who retired in 1975. He was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College. He was a former member and past president of the Buckhannon Lions Club, with 56 years of membership and many years of perfect attendance. He was a member of the Emeritus Club of Wesleyan and was a more than 60 year member of Franklin Lodge AF and AM in Buckhannon. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite Bodies of Clarksburg and Wheeling and Osiris Shrine Temple of Wheeling, Sons of the American Revolution and Hacker’s Creek Pioneer Descendants. He was a former long time member of the administrative board of the First United Methodist Church of Buckhannon, where he became a member in 1927. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the United States Army in Europe.

Friends will be received at Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Charles Godwin, the Rev. Billee Scott Mick and the Rev. Mark Flynn. Burial will follow in Heavner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Robert H., Gwen F. and William L. Reger Scholarship at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
