ROBERT JOHN CROSS 1916-2010 Obituary

ROBERT JOHN CROSS, age 93 years, a resident of the Blackman Flats Community, Parsons, WV departed this life Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the home of his caretakers, John and Sharon Lambert.

He was born Wednesday, July 5, 1916 at Evanwood, Randolph Co, a son of the late Howard R. Cross and Bessie Raines Cross. He was married to the former Sylvia Arizona Hershman, who preceded him in death June 7, 1960.

Surviving are one daughter, Janet Roberta Cross Bohon of St. George; one stepson, Leslie R. Nestor of Kingwood; two stepdaughters, Nettie Bright Lipscomb and Juanita Roy, both of Parsons; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; ten step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren.

He is the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by one son, Robert Lee Cross; three brothers, Clarence, Ralph and Paul Cross; six sisters, Ethel Taylor, Kathleen Holsberry, Evelyn Comeau, Agnes Bates, Genevive Wade and Helen Cross; and three step grandchildren.

He attended the schools of Tucker County. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving as a Military Police. He was an employee of the former Parsons Tannery. He was a Woodsman for Jonah Canfield, Art Morral, Pete Frazee and Roscoe Nestor. He attended the Sycamore Grove Church. He was an outdoorsman, loving to fish, hunt and ginseng. He loved to read.

On Tuesday, May 25, 2010 the family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 1 PM until 2 PM at which time a Celebration of Life will be conducted at the funeral home parlor. The Rev. Pat Cassidy will officiate and interment will follow at the Nestor Cemetery at Bull Run, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military rites.
