Robert John Kern 1919-2002 Obituary

Robert John Kern, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, in South Carolina.

He was born Dec. 12, 1919, in New Jersey, a son of the late Fred F. and Helen Mallay Kern.

Mr. Kern was a World War II, U.S. Air Force flight office and navigator and later served in the U.S. Air Force reserve. He was a 1941 graduate of The College of William and Mary.

Mr. Kern was a CPA with Price Waterhouse & Co.., Pogson, Peloubet & Co. and retired from ARCO Co. in 1978 before moving to the area in 1984. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Katherine Kern.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, A. Gene Kern; one son, Mike Kern and wife, Nancy, of Madison, Wisc.; two daughters, Barbara Kern of Salem, Mass., and Patte Huff of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Gretchen and Michelle Kern of Madison, Wisc., and Tyler and Marisa Huff of Myrtle Beach; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today from Goldfinch Funeral Home, Murrells Inlet, S.C., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Garden City Beach, S.C. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Conway, S.C. Memorials may be made to The Friends of Chapin Memorial Library, 400 14th Ave. North, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29577.
