ROBERT LEE “HONEY” LIPSCOMB, SR., age 88 years, a resident of the Leadmine Community, Parsons, WV, departed this life Sunday morning, July 10, 2011 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center at Clarksburg, WV.

He was born Saturday, March 10, 1923 at Leadmine, WV, a son of the late Arthur Albert and Sylvia Ruth Shaffer Lipscomb. On May 15, 1942, he was married to the former Ada Agnes Shaffer, who preceded him in death Nov. 1, 2003. They had celebrated sixty years of marriage.

Surviving are one son Robert Lee Lipscomb, Jr. of Leadmine; four brothers, Allen Lipscomb and wife Ann of FL, Randolph Lipscomb and wife Nettie of Holly Meadows, Rodney Lipscomb and wife Shirley of PA, Gary Lipscomb and wife Lynn of Parsons; three sisters, Virginia Ferrell of OH, Mary Litman of PA, Carol Godfrey of parsons; two granddaughters, Kimberly Lipscomb Day and husband Bill of Parsons and Susan Lipscomb of Elkins and four great grandchildren, Wesley and Emily Nestor and Rorry and Dora Grace Day.

Preceding him in death are one brother, Chet Lipscomb and one sister, Velma “Poke” Roy; two brothers and one sister died in infancy, Dora, Glennis and Otis.

He attended the schools at Tucker Co. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He served in the Navy for eighteen months and in the Army for twenty years, retiring as a Major. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He, along with his wife Ada owned and operated the Country Geshäft at Leadmine. He was a member of the Pythagoras Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons, the Scottish Rite of Clarksburg, the Osiris Temple of Wheeling and the Parsons Chapter #91 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a Charter member of the Leadmine United Methodist Church at St. George.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday from 5 to 7 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 7 PM. The Tucker County Veteran’s Association will present the American Flag. The Rev. Neil Parsons will officiate and cremation will follow.
