Mr. Roger Dale Harris, 70, a resident of the Hunter’s Fork Community in Belington, departed this life Sunday March 13, 2022, at his home. Death was following a period of declining heath but also unexpected.

He was born Nov. 9, 1951 at Barbour County, West Virginia, a son of the late George Lewis and Jessie Irene Cross Harris. He had never married.

He is survived by seven brothers, George Harris and wife, Linda, of Belington, Henry Harris of Belington, John Harris and wife, Sue, of Garland, Texas, Herman Harris and wife, Sandy, of Verona, Virginia, David Harris and wife, Ruthie, of Teter Creek Lake, Gary Harris and wife, Vickie, of Belington and Philip Harris and wife, Marsha, of Junior; four sisters, Carol Ann Newman and husband, Steve, of Statesville, North Carolina, Connie Phillips and husband, Steve, of Belington, Robin “White” LeBow and husband, Don, of Morganton, North Carolina and Patricia “Trish” Shaffer and husband, David, of Belington. Additional survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, and a whole host of friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Harris; brother-in-law, Homer White; two sisters-in-law; Bonnie Harris and Debbie Harris.

Roger attended the schools of Barbour County and attended the Stringtown United Methodist Church. He was previously employed for Wares Sawmill and Auvil Manufactured Homes. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam and was a member of the VFW Laurel Mountain Post 410 of Belington. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved all sports in general. He ran the clock for the Philip Barbour girls volleyball team and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg St. in Belington on Wednesday Marcg16, 2022 from 6-9 p.m, and again on Thursday March 17, 2022, from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. James “Oz” Gray officiating. Interment will follow in the Stringtown Cemetery near Belington where full military rites will be accorded by the United States Army and the American Legion Post 96 of Belington.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, face masks are recommended while paying your respects in the funeral home.
