Ronald Lester “JR” Collins, Jr., age 64 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Sunday evening, September 15, 2013 at Nella’s Inc. at Crystal Springs, Elkins, WV with his family by his side. He had been in declining health.
He was born Friday, November 26, 1948 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Ronald Lester, Sr., and Rachel U. Gochenour “Peg” Collins. He was formerly married to Kathy (Bender) Hornbeck, who preceded him in death. Surviving are one brother William Harper “Bill” Collins, of Elkins; one sister in law, Thelma Jeanette Collins, of Elkins; one nephew, Russell “Ray” Collins, of PA and one niece, Linda Ellen Garcia, of MI.
Preceding him in death is one brother, Kenneth Jack Collins.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1968 and was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He had formerly worked in a sawmill and worked in food service at Davis & Elkins College for several years. He was a former member of the Aerie # 2344, Fraternal Order of Eagles, was a member of the Tygarts Valley Lodge # 66, I.O.O.F., the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29 American Legion and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Wednesday. On Wednesday, at 7 PM, at the funeral home, the Tygarts Valley Lodge # 66, I.O.O.F. will conduct ritualistic services. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 12:30 PM. Evangelist Gary L. Kendall, Sr., will officiate and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Airport Road.
