Ruby Mae Davis Sponaugle, 82, a former resident of Sandyville, and for the past seven years, a resident of Parsons, passed from this life Thursday morning, March 15, 2012 at Cortland Acres Nursing Home. She had been in declining health. She was born on Tuesday, March 11, 1930 at Osborne Mills, a daughter of the late William Henry Davis and Bessie Mary Groves. On June 15, 1949 at Spencer, she was married to John F. (Tib) Sponaugle, who survives in Parsons. Ruby was a graduate of Herbert Hoover High School in Clendenin, was a homemaker, and had worked as a custodian for the Jackson County Schools. She had been a member of the Drift Run United Methodist Church in Jackson County for forty-eight years and had attended the Parsons Church of God since moving to Parsons. Ruby is also survived by four daughters, Rosemary Petersen and husband, Joseph R., of Paragon, IN, Melissa O’Brien and husband, David, of Westerfield, OH, Valerie Sponaugle of Vineland, NJ, and Amelia Barmoy and husband, Michael, of Lawrenceville, VA, seven grandchildren, Christy Holloway of Flagstaff, AZ, Joseph M. Petersen of Greenwood, IN, Stephanie Hobson of Lynchburg, VA, John Taylor of Nelsonville, OH, Joshua Barmoy, Jared Barmoy, and Jefferson Barmoy, all of Lawrenceville, VA, six great grandchildren, Kyle Skinner of Patricksburg, IN, Maxwell Arnold, Margaret Mae Arnold, and Jackson Arnold, all of Flagstaff, AZ, Alexander Petersen, and Benjamin Petersen, both of Greenwood, IN, and one sister, Betty Myers of Santa Fe, TX. Ruby was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Ashley. Visitation will be held at the Summerfield Funeral Home in Parsons on Saturday from 5 until 8PM. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home chapel on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 2:30 PM. The Reverend Eli D. Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow at Brights Chapel Cemetery at Dry Fork. The Summerfield Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Ruby Mae Davis Sponaugle.
