Sammy Waldo Cooper, 61, a resident of Harman, departed this life Sunday morning, Aug. 10, 2003, at the home of his daughter, Christy D. Cooper of 105 Sunset Drive, Elkins. He had been in declining health since May 24 with brain cancer, although death was unexpected.

He was born Monday, March 23, 1942, at Detroit, Mich., the son of the late Waldo Albert Cooper and Janet Dove Mullennex Cooper.

On June 9, 1966, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Dolly Armentrout, who survives at Harman.

Also surviving are two daughters, Christy D. Cooper, Elkins and Tina L. Cooper, Fairfax, Va.; two brothers, Jeff Cooper and wife, Denice, Mill Creek, and Greg Cooper and wife Brenda, Harman; three sisters, Vanessa Heitz and husband, Allen, Davis, Sarah Kennard, Elkins and Barbara “Babs” Armentrout and husband, Criss, Spotsylvania, Va.; and four grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were two brothers, Jeddie Riley Cooper and Daniel Lee Cooper; and one granddaughter, Corinne Andrea Zirkle.

Sammy was a graduate of Harman High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Germany, had worked as the operations manager for Washington Printing Supplies for 30 years, was a member of the American Legion and the Loyal Order of Moose at Arlington, Va., and had recently returned to Harman in September 2002.

The family will receive friends at the Harman Presbyterian Church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Final rites will be conducted at the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Joseph Mininger will officiate and interment will follow at the Armentrout-Mullennex Cemetery at Job, where full military rites will be accorded by members of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post 3647 and the Harman Post 5781 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
