Sance Murl Canfield 1945-2020 Obituary

Sance Murl Canfield, age 74 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Friday, June 12, 2020 in the Davis Medical Center Emergency Department. He was born June 21, 1945 at Montrose a son of the late John E. Canfield and the late Goldie Cross Canfield. The late Calvin and Icie Canfield raised Sance as their own child. He was married for fifty four years to Rebecca Ann Ware Canfield who survives in Elkins. Also surviving is one daughter, Debra Dawn Surface and husband Wayne of Steeles Tavern, VA; twin brother, Ward Canfield and wife Carolyn of Kerens and “brothers” whom he was raised with, Truman Canfield of Montrose and Ray Canfield and wife Marie of Elkins. Also surviving is a “special sister”, Pauline Arbogast of Montrose and sisters Ruth Carr of Belington, Geneva Stark and Norma Jean Lawrence both of Elkins and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death were brothers, Elwood and Charles Canfield and sister Sylvia Saxberg and “sisters and brothers” whom he was raised with, Hazel Bedford, Mary Newlon, Anna Null, Bessie Wilfong and Thurman Canfield, Willie Canfield and Troy Canfield. Sance attended the schools of Randolph County and was employed by the West Virginia Department of Highways for over thirty five years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Elkins Church of the Nazarene and the Randolph County Senior Center. Sance was a kind man who never met a stranger. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Country Club Road. Pastor Terry Burgess will officiate and interment will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elkins Church of the Nazarene, PO Box 50, Elkins, WV 26241 or West Virginia Caring, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 in memory of Sance. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Sance Murl Canfield.
