Sandra J. Helmick, 51, a resident of Mabie, passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown from complications following surgery Wednesday.

She was born Aug. 22, 1951, in Elkins, the daughter of the Rev. Ronald George and Ruby Watson George, who survive at Mabie.

On Dec. 17, 1970, she was married to Jerry Helmick, who survives at Mabie.

Also surviving are one son, Jerry Ray Helmick, at home; twin daughters, Mrs. Donald (Sherry) Smith of Mabie and Mrs. Travis (Sheila) Arbogast of Elkins; two brothers, Ronald Ray George Jr. and wife, Jenny, of Elkins, and James Edward “Jimmy” George and wife, Ruby, of Mill Creek; two sisters, Mrs. Jerry (Linda) Ryan and Mrs. Scott (Carla )Combs, all of Brandywine; six grandchildren, Sara, Emily and Donald Rowan and Maranda, Haley and Allison Smith, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death was one brother, Victor Dale George.

Mrs. Helmick was a graduate of Coalton High School and worked for many years at Reidbord Brothers in Elkins. She was employed as a nurses’ aide at Colonial Place at the time of her death. She attended the Harrison Community Church at Mabie.

Sandy was a loving and caring person who will be sadly missed by her family and a host of friends.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Greg Lanham and the Rev. Robert Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the Rowan Memorial Cemetery near Mabie. The Tomblyn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Sandra J. “Sandy” Helmick.
