SHERLENE SHIRLEY SUMMERFIELD 1927-2010 Obituary

SHERLENE “SHIRLEY” SUMMERFIELD, age 82 years, a well known business lady of Parsons, a resident of the Fork Mountain Community, departed this life Sunday evening, January 3, 2010 at the Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown, WV.

She was born Wednesday, March 16, 1927, a daughter of the late Gilbert Summerfield and Nellie Mae Young Summerfield.

Surviving are two sons, John R. Thompson and wife Debra of Fork Mt., and James A. Thompson and wife Becky of GA.; ten grandchildren, John, Daniel, Debra, James, Joseph, Jim, Nikki, Tyler, twin girls, Emily and Christina; ten great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death is one grandson.

She attended the one room school at Gladwin. She was an employee of the former Hinebaugh Restaurant in Parsons. During 1971 she was owner and operator of Mr. D’s, and then in 1982, she remodeled the restaurant and changed the name to Shirley’s. She sold the restaurant in 1999. She attended the First Baptist Church at Parsons. Shirley was a noted cook and was very well known for her Blue Ribbon Pies and she loved to knit.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Friday, January 8, 2010 at 1:30PM. Pastor Allen D. Crosten will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
