Sherry Hicks Aston 1956-2002

Sherry Hicks Aston, 46, a resident of Elkins, and a resident of Virginia Beach, Va., for the past four months, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, in the Norfolk Medical Center, where she was admitted on Thursday. She had been in her usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.

She was born Jan. 18, 1956, in Washington, D.C., a daughter of Tom and Irene Hicks, who survive in Elkins.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by three daughters, Renee Lynn, Crystal Jean and Angel L., all of Virginia Beach; one son, David Aston Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va.; four sisters, Joyce Hicks, Deborah “Debby” Bradford, Sharon Rae “Penny” Hatters, all of Virginia Beach, and Jennifer Lynn Bussy, at home; three brothers, Thomas Raymond Hicks Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., John Wesley Hicks of Sarasota, Fla., and Tony Lee Hicks of Elkins; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, including a special uncle, Bill Hicks of Highlands, N.C.

She completed high school in Randolph County and received her CNA license at the Elkins Vocational School under the direction of Ruth Capalinger. She attended Scotts Presbyterian Church.

She was employed by Nella’s Nursing Home in Crystal Springs as a CNA and also worked at Pizza Hut, until becoming disabled in an automobile accident on Sept. 7, 1997.

She enjoyed life and spending time with her family and friends. She had a very energetic and outgoing personality and never met a stranger. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Virginia. A visitation was held on Monday. Graveside services will be conducted from the Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville Thursday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Frank Long, pastor of the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church will officiate. Interment will follow. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
