Sherwood “Bud” Sanders, age 89 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2011 in the Davis Memorial Hospital. He was born December 14, 1921 in Elkins, a son of the late Nora Fallen and Lloyd Charles Sanders. On January 3, 1940 in Monterey, VA, he married Lois Lobb Sanders who preceded him in death on May 6, 2003. Surviving are his children, Thomas “Tom” Sanders and wife Sandra, Charles “Chuck” Sanders and wife Christina, Dianne Sanders DeMotto, all of Elkins and Cynthia “Cindy” Sanders of Dailey. Eight grandchildren, Gregory Sanders, Stephanie Millard, Lee Sanders, Tara Shaver, Kristin Mahoney, Angela Hart, Jeremy DeMotto and Brian Carter. Nineteen great grandchildren, Mara, Ivan, Sage, and Rane Looney-sanders, Dylan Thomas Millard, Madeliene Millard, Casey, Alexa and Ryan Sanders, Madison Shaver, Bradley and Paige Mahoney, Nathan, Andrew and Elliot Hart, Lillian, Alana and Stevi Carter and Eli Collins. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Sanders and Gerald Sanders; his sister Dorothy Basil and an infant brother Junior Thomas Sanders. Also preceding him in death were one son, Bradley “Brad” Sanders, grandson, Christopher “Chris” Sanders and great granddaughter Emily Hart. Mr. Sanders attended the Randolph County Schools and was a graduate of Elkins High School. He graduated with a Radio and T.V. Certification from the National Radio Institute. He was a machinist with the West Maryland Railroad for twenty years and was also owner of Bud’s Esso for twenty years until he retired. “Bud” enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being outdoors and attended auctions and collected and sold antiques. He played on the Senior Golf League at the Elks Club and was a lifelong member of Saint Brendan Catholic Church in Elkins and was a devout Catholic.

Friends may call from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM Friday, March 25, 2011 at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Elkins. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Friday from the church with Very Rev. Father Donald X. Higgs, VF as the Presider. Interment will follow in St. Brendan Cemetery. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Randolph County Senior Center, P. O. Box 727, Elkins, WV 26241 or St. Brendan Catholic Church, P. O. Box 2205, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mr. Sanders. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Sherwood “Bud” Sanders.
