Shirley Alice (Griffin) Knapp, a resident of Maple Lake, Bridgeport, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002.

She was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Kinta, Okla., but lived at Maple Lake for more than 40 years.

Mrs. Knapp completed an associate degree from Eastern Oklahoma College and then worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C., during World War II. Sh

e met and married Walter E. Knapp Jr., an Army-air Corps technical sergeant, in 1944. During their 54-years together, they lived in Gastonia and Myrtle Beach, N.C.; Valley Bend; Monterey and Harrisonburg, Va.; and Maple Lake, Bridgeport.

Mrs. Knapp was an office-holder and active in the Maple Lake Women’s Club, lake and community activities, PTA and school activities.

She also worked outside the home until her retirement approximately 20 years ago. Her interests included her family, reading, walking and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Knapp Jr.; a brother, Amon Griffin of Amarillo, Texas; a sister, Lillian Milano of Wilburton, Okla.; two infant brothers of Kinta, Okla.; her parents, Samual Aaron and Elizabeth McMillion Griffin of Wilburton, Okla.; and a grandson, Aaron Knapp of Fort Wayne, Ind.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol and son-in-law, Steve Ayers, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; son, Lynn, and daughter-in-law, Sandy Knapp of Fort Wayne, Ind.; granddaughter, Rani Byme of Fort Wayne, Ind.; grandson, Colin, and granddaughter, Kelsey Knapp, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sister, Lottie, and brother-in-law, Jack Nash, of Wilburton, Okla.; and nieces and nephews in Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona and Germany.

Mrs. Knapp was a member of the Bridgeport Presbyterian Church.

Friends will be received at the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 E. Main St., Bridgeport, today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gary McGrew officiating.

The interment will be held at 2 p.m. in the Greenwood Cemetery in Dailey.

The Knapp family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 E. Main St., Bridgeport.
