SHIRLEY KATHRYN MORGAN VARNER, age 72 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Friday morning, June 4, 2010 at her home with Angie by her side.

She was born Saturday, March 5, 1938 at Spruce, WV a daughter of the late James Edward Morgan and Flossie Mae Oxley Morgan. On April 8, 1961, she was married to Gale Booth, of Belington. On June 30, 1978, she was married to Norman Varner, who survives at Elkins, WV. Also surviving are two daughters, Paula Booth White Currence, Elkins; Angela Mae Booth, Elkins; with whom Shirley made her home, two grandsons, Robert Shawn White and Shane M. White, both of Elkins; one brother, Wayne E. Morgan and wife Sue, Elkins; four sisters, Bettie Hornick, Timberville, VA; Charlotte Elbon and husband Bob, Dailey; Linda Cole and husband Bill, Glenmore, Paula Paugh Snyder and husband Mike, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

She attended the schools of Elkins. Shirley, Paula and Linda comprised a gospel singing group called the Morgan Sisters, until the group disbanded due to Shirley’s declining health. Shirley was employed by Reidboard Brothers for thirty-eight years, until its closing. She enjoyed Flea Marketing at the Elkins Flea Market with her daughter Angela. Her hobbies were making all kinds of crafts with her mother, who owned and operated Flossie’s Flowers and Craft Shop. She loved crocheting and singing gospel music with her sisters, puzzles of all kinds and spending time with her grandsons. She was a member of the Refuge Church at Gilman.

Mrs. Varner’s request for cremation was honored. A Graveside service will be held Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Kevin Gainer officiating.
