Silas S. Sharp 1907-2002 Obituary

Silas S. Sharp, 94, of Slatyfork, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital, after a long illness.

He was born Oct. 27, 1907, at Slatyfork, a son of the late Luther David and Laura Morgan Sharp.

In his long lifetime he was a farmer, a watchmaker, an amateur gunsmith, a barber and an artist. Many of his paintings are on display at the Sharps Country Store at Slatyfork, now managed by his niece, Linda Carroll. He was a gifted fisherman and a hunter and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was a lifetime member of the Slatyfork United Methodist Church and was a graduate of the Edray District High School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Kerr Sharp; two brothers, Ivan and Paul; and three sisters, Creola, Ada and Violet.

Surviving are a stepson, Lowell Gibson of Slatyfork, with whom he made his home for the past year; one brother, Dave Sharp of Cincinnati, Ohio; as well as cherished nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Slatyfork United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Mann officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharp Family Cemetery in Slatyfork. Friends may call Friday at VanReenen Funeral Home in Marlinton from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
