Stanley Wayne Painter, 76, a resident of Elkins, passed away unexpectedly during surgery at Ruby Memorial Hospital on Sunday, October 14, 2012. He was born August 11, 1936 in Pendleton County, the son of the late Tommy V. and Tressie Propst Painter. He is survived by his wife, Wanda of forty eight years, three daughters, Lisa Mallow and husband Stephen of Upper Tract; Ashley Hively and husband Jim of Beverly; and Sonja Priester of Fairmont. One sister, Kay Lambert and husband Jack of North Carolina and his grandchildren, Anne, Sarah and Christopher Mallow and Stefan and Carter Priester and several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Johnny and Ralph Painter and one sister, Cora Lynn Wise. Stanley began his career as a lineman for Monongahela Power Company in Franklin. He transferred in 1989 to Elkins as foreman of services retiring in 1996 after nearly forty years of service. Stanley was Past Master of Pendleton Lodge No. 144 A.F. & A.M. and a Past Patron of Franklin Chapter No. 138, Order of the Eastern Star. Upon retirement, Stanley thoroughly enjoyed woodworking, making several unique items. The past several years he was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of “The Grumpy Old Men” fishing trio and the “Breakfast Zipper Club”. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his “furry” grandchildren. He was a member of Walnut Street United Methodist Church of Franklin and attended Landmark Baptist Church of Elkins. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 18th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Susie Echols and Pastor Don Hepler officiating. Mr. Painter will be moved to the Cedar Hill Cemetery at Franklin, WV where a graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM Thursday. Interment will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 450 Randolph Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mr. Painter. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Stanley Wayne Painter.
