Steven E. Bailey 1984-2002

Steven Edward Bailey, 18, a resident of Route 1, Beverly, departed this life to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, as a result of a drowning accident in Barbour County.

He was born Dec. 20, 1983, in Elkins, a son of R.J. “Buzzy” Bailey and Linda Gilkeson Bailey of Beverly.

Also surviving are his maternal grandmother, Carla Adkins and husband, George Adkins, of Rainelle; three brothers, Marcus Bailey and wife, Michele, Orlando, Fla., Jason Bailey, Elkins, and Bradley Bailey, at home; one sister, Tonya Shreve, Columbus, Ohio; two nieces, Morgan Vance and Kyatt Bailey; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Also preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather, Lawrence Gilkeson; and paternal grandparents, John and Opal Bailey.

He was a recent graduate of George Washington High School in Charleston, and was enrolled at West Virginia University for the fall semester. Following his graduation from high school, he entered the Marine Corps Reserves Boot Camp at Parris Islands, S.C. Due to physical problems, he was forced to leave camp early and planned to return next year.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Randall Brake officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that contributions be made to the Steve E. Bailey Memorial Fund, Route 1, Box 139B-2, Beverly, W.Va. 26253. These contributions will be forwarded by the Bailey family to local Search and Rescue Units which aided in the search for Steven. The family would like to thank Mark, Sara, Paul and Jamie Scott of Charleston, who were Steven’s second family, and all the special people God put in Steven’s life to watch over him and keep him safe
