Sylvia Juanita Wolfe Nestor, age 101 years, a resident of St. George, WV went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday morning, July 19, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of West Virginia Caring.
She was born Sunday, July 11, 1920, at Pifer Mt., St. George, WV, a daughter of the late Karl Leslie and Grace Poling Wolfe. During 1938, she was married to Francis Woodrow Nestor, who preceded her in death in 1990.
Surviving are one daughter, Priscilla Ann Flanagan of St. George; one brother, Theodore Meredith Wolfe; eight grandchildren, Michael Shaffer and wife Sandy, Ronnie Shaffer and wife Ellen, Ann Brown and husband Bob, Nancy Dotson, Julie Pearce and husband Cory, Karl Dotson, Frank “Chip” Dotson, Jr. and wife Christina and Belinda Armstrong and husband Neil; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are two daughters, Judith Elmore and Sue Carpenter; two sisters, Jill Brown and Dorcas Saunders; and one great grandson, Bradley Parker Shaffer.
She attended Parsons High School. She was a member of the St. George United Methodist Church. She was a cook at the St. George Academy and later worked as a clerk for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1986. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking for funerals, weddings, and other local events. She had a reputation for baking bread. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and mostly loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons, WV, on Thursday from 5 PM to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, July 23, 2021, at 11 AM. The Rev. Brad Barton, Pastor Don Knotts and Dr. Bob Brown will officiate and interment will follow at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George, WV. The family suggest that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to St. George Academy Preservation Society, c/o Nancy Dotson, 181 Milkweed Lane, Parsons, WV 26287.
