Tommy “Tom” Howard, 65, a resident of Mill Creek and for the past two years Harmons Creek, passed from this life Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, at home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

Tom was born Saturday, Feb. 19, 1955, in Elkins, a son of the late Vance Monroe Howard and Virginia Flayown Currence Howard.

On Aug. 25, 1978, in Mill Creek, he married the former Alice “Arlene” Zirkle, who survives at home. He recently celebrated 42 years of marriage with the love of his life, Arlene. They were truly inseparable.

Also left to cherish his memory are two children, Kristy Arlene Ord and husband, Harold, of Hurricane, and Tommy Justin (“TJ”) Howard and wife, Mandy, of Bluffton, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Dakota Ryan Harless, Hunter Ryan Harless, Logen Eugen Ord, Levi Cole Harless, Brady DeWayne Harless, Braxton Lee Ord, Olan Loraine McCauley, and his only baby girl, Hadley Shay Ord, all of Hurricane; eight siblings, Sue Scott, Janet Phillips, Lisa Hinchman, Tammy, Boyd, Rickey, Steve and Doug Howard.

Preceding him in death beside his parents were three siblings, Ernest, James Allen and Mary Jane Howard.

Tom graduated from Tygarts Valley High School. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Tom loved being in the woods, going to the beach, camping and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was passionate about firearms and enjoyed teaching others in this area. Additionally, he was an extremely reliable handyman sought out by family and friends across the country for his experience.

While his children attended high school, he adamantly supported them and their peers via sports. His support of the community continued long after their graduation. He spent a majority of his employment with the coal mines coal mines (Buck Run and Gamble Coal) before becoming disabled in 1988.

He still always spoke with high regard and loyalty to his fellow coal miners.

Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home, Valley Bend, West Virginia on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. Rev. Rick Cooper will officiate and interment will take place in Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville.

The Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements for Tommy Howard.
