Troy Tackett, 76, a resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life early Monday morning, August 12, 2013 at the Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Elkins.

He had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.

Troy was born Wednesday, June 9, 1937 in Mill Creek, a son of the late Nathan Tackett and Virginia “Jenny” Currence Tackett.

Left to cherish Troy’s memory are two daughters, Shirley Lewis and husband, Brooks of Mill Creek (with whom he made his home) and Lura Hagler and husband, David of Midlothian, VA, one son, Patrick LaFayette and wife, Evette of Beverly, ten grandchildren; Amanda Bangs of Midlothian, VA, Kristin Wright of Powhatan, VA, Brittany Newman of Powhatan, VA, David Hagler of Fort Lewis,WA, Shaun Hagler of Henrico, VA, Sara Ebel of Aberdeen, NC, Emily Earl of Elkins, Elizabeth Thomas of Wheeling, Megan Lewis of Laurel, MD, and Clayton Lewis of Martinsburg, seventeen great grandchildren, one aunt, Luene Long, a long time devoted friend, Burton “Sonny” Armstrong, and several loving nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Troy was preceded in death by his loving and caring ex-wife, Thelma Gear Tackett Lambert, his step-father, Robert “Bob” Currence, two brothers, Robert, “Bob” Tackett and Junior “June” Tackett, one sister, Dottie Wamsley, a sister-in-law, Addie Tackett, a brother-in-law, Frank Wamsley, maternal grandparents, Perry and Jemimah Currence, paternal grandparents, Nathaniel and Jane Tackett.

Troy was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Troy attended the schools of Randolph County, had served with the United States Army, had worked for Carter Roag Coal, Gamble Coal, J.F. Allen, Myles Lumber, and Scott’s Auto Sales as both a truck driver and mechanic, enjoying both occupations greatly.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He also enjoyed working in the back yard tinkering with autos, lawn mowers, and other mechanical devices.

Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Friday from 6PM until 8PM.

Funeral services will be held from the funeral home chapel on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 11AM.

Reverend Randy Long and Reverend Bernard Teter will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery where members of the H.W. Daniels Post #29, American Legion, the H.W. Daniels Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the WV Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
