TROY WILSON KERNS 1918-2010 Obituary

TROY WILSON KERNS, age 91 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life early Sunday morning, October 24, 2010 at his home.

He was born Sunday, November 10, 1918 at Sully, WV a son of the late Enos Kerns and Peachie Mae Kerns. On September 30, 1947 at Kerens, WV he was married to the former Lucille Martin, who survives. They had celebrated sixty-three years of marriage. Also surviving are two daughters, Patricia Louise Coberly, Elkins; Robin Elizabeth Ross and husband Samuel, Elkins; two brothers, Kenneth Kerens and wife Crystle, DE; Leonard Kerns, OH; ten grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are one brother, James Kerns; four sisters, Delphia Kelshner, Effie Kerns, Mareva “Sis” Kerns and Naomi “Susie” Ramsey and one great grandchild.

He attended Elkins High School, was a veteran of the US Army during World War II, and had worked as an Installer and Repairman for the C & P Telephone Company for thirty-four years, retiring in 1982. He had worked for the former F. E. Runner Funeral Home from 1981 to 2002, was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Elkins Church of God and Family Worship Center.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 1:30 PM. The Rev. William McCallister will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV.
