VALENTINA ALICIA RAMIREZ “TINA” PHILLIPS FERGUSON, age 104 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Monday morning, September 19, 2011 at her home.

She was born Thursday, February 14, 1907 at Washington, DC the only child of the late Franklin and Ethel Hemsley Ramirez Mead. She was twice married. First, on July 10, 1923 she was married to Homer Sterling Phillips, who preceded her in death during 1953. Second, to Harvard Ferguson, who preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons, Sterling G. Phillips and wife Katherine “Kay”, SC; Arthur Garrison “Garri” Phillips, FL; one step son, James Ferguson, Elkins; one step daughter, Eleanor Copeman and husband Doug, Elkins; two grandchildren, David S. Phillips and wife Betty, Morgantown; Stephen Phillips and wife Betsy, NC; three step granddaughters, Tammy; Debbie; and Christine; six great grandchildren, Jason; Joseph; Cassandra; Christopher; Craig; and Nathaniel; and two great great grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death are one infant son, Henry Franklin Phillips and one granddaughter, Karen Lynn Phillips.

She attended the schools of Randolph County, was a clerk for Maxine’s Dress shop, was a member of the Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Crystal Springs Homemaker’s which she served as a past president, the Delphia Rebekah Lodge # 62, which she served as treasurer for nineteen years, the Elkins Lodge # 116, I.O.O.F., which she served as Noble Grand for one year and was the oldest member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 11 AM to 1 PM, Friday. The funeral service will be conducted Friday, September 23, 2011 at 1 PM. The Rev. Dr. Peter A. Vial will officiate and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Airport Road at Elkins, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Hospice Care Corporation, 169 Diamond Street, Elkins, WV 26241 or to the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, 450 South Randolph Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241.
