Van Louis Bennett 1925-2002 Obituary

Van Louis Bennett, 76, of 1 Valley Manor Drive, Williamstown, and formerly of Elkins, died at 5:42 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, in Selby General Hospital.

Mr. Bennett was born Oct. 12, 1925, in Philippi, a son of the late Columbus Ira and Lulu Belle McDaniel Bennett.

On March 10, 1949, in Philippi, he married Helen Louise Burner, who survives in Williamstown.

Also surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Diane Blizzard and husband, Allan, Williamstown, and Sondra Kaye Knile and husband, Robert, Marietta, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Betty Harvey and husband, Norbert, Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dennis, Richard, Quinton and Woodrow Bennett; and a sister, Luvada Mobely.

Mr. Bennett worked for Island Creek Coal Co. as a coal miner, retiring on Oct. 10, 1986. He had also been employed as a correctional officer at Huttonsville Medium Security Prison from 1960 until 1968. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served from Dec. 5, 1943, until Jan. 19, 1946.

He was a member of Elkins Church of the Nazarene and attended Faith Bible Church in Williamstown.

Funeral Arrangements: Friends will be received at Hadley Funeral Home, Reno Chapel, 500 Fifth St., Marietta, Ohio, today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Saturday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ray Witmer III officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.
