Vera “Catherine” Sheets Mullins, 88, a resident of Elkins, departed this life, Friday morning, Jan. 11, 2013, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

She was born Tuesday, July 22, 1924, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Glenn and Nellie May Sheets. On Dec. 26, 1947, she was married by the Rev. Farmer at the First Baptist Church of Elkins to Paul C. Mullins, who survives. They had celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Also surviving are two daughters, Joyce Ann Wilson and husband, Steve, of Charlotte, N.C.; Janet Sue Kittle and husband, Morris, of Elkins; four grandchildren, Jill Catherine Wilson and Stephanie Auvalene Wilson, both of Charlotte, N.C.; Adam Clay Kittle and wife, Dawn, East Dailey; and Aaron Paul Kittle, Philippi, and fiance, Jessica VanNoy.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Preceding her in death are two sisters, Glenna Johnson and Martha Gordon; and one brother, George C. Sheets.

Mrs. Mullins was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1942. She had worked at the Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, Md., during World War II. After returning to Elkins, she worked as secretary at Elkins High School until transferring to the Randolph County Board of Education, where she worked as an accountant in the finance department until her retirement in 1988 with 36 years of service. In 1960, Mrs. Mullins was named secretary of the year by the Alpha Chapter of Beta Alpha Beta of Davis & Elkins College. She was a member of the Julia Bonafield Circle and lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins. She was a member of the Randolph County Association of Retired School Employees.

Mrs. Mullins was a dedicated wife and mother, and was loved dearly by her husband, daughters and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Barry R. Moll will officiate and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Airport Road.
