Vernon Lafon “Briar” Tenney, 71, a resident of HC, 36, Box 364, Tallmansville, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.

He was born July 24, 1932, in Ten Mile, the son of the late Dewey A. Tenney and Pearl Tenney Tenney.

On Nov. 5, 1970, he was married to Shirley M. Young Tenney, who survives in Tallmansville.

Also surviving are one son, David Tenney and wife, Lori, Hesperia, Calif.; one daughter, Brenda Koch, Bellflower, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Loretta Knight and husband, Carl, Carlton, Wash.; two brothers, L.P. Tenney and Virgil Darius Tenney, both of Ashtabula, Ohio; two sisters, Naomi Montgomery, North Kingsville, Ohio, and Verna Pickett, Fairfield, Ohio; three grandsons, Brandon Tenney and James Tenney, both of Hesperia, Calif., and David Koch, Bellflower, Calif.; four granddaughters, Lyndsay Tenney, Kelley Tenney and Krystal Tenney, all of Hesperia, Calif., and Jennifer Koch, Bellflower, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Avis Smallridge.

Mr. Tenney was a carpenter and worked for Bethlehem Steel. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 and was an active beekeeper.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The Rev. Lloyd Tenney will officiate and interment will be in the Ten Mile Baptist Cemetery at Ten Mile. Buckhannon VFW Post 3663 and Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion will conduct military honors at the gravesite.
