Virginia Tobitha Powers Bowers, 83, a resident of the Norton community, passed away Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, in the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center at Belington.

She had been in failing health for the past year.

She was born Sept. 18, 1920, at Huttonsville, the daughter of the late Charles W. and Alma Kimbrew Powers.

On Nov. 18, 1939, she was united in marriage to Forest H. Bowers, who preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 2002 in Fort Meade, Fla.

They were married for 62 years. Surviving are two sons, Forest David Bowers and wife, Jane, of Norton and Philip Bowers and wife, Arlene, of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Joy Rossi and husband, Jack, of Charleston and Jane Pingley and husband, Ken, of Norton; one brother, Clair Eldon Powers and wife, Virginia, of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister-in-law, Ruth Bowers O’Fallon of Missouri; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her parents were two brothers, Warren E. Powers and Edgar Powers; and one sister, Willa Powers Rowan Lindsey.

Mrs. Bowers attended the schools of Randolph County and graduated from Coalton High School with the class of 1939.

She was a homemaker who loved to sew and quilt.

She and her husband, Forest, spent many years in Fort Meade, Fla., where she was a member of the Lake Buffin Baptist Church.

She was a charter member of the First Christian Church in Elkins. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and those whose lives she touched. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

On Thursday, she will be moved to the First Christian Church where funeral services will be at 11 a.m.

The Rev. Lynn Crouch and the Rev. Kent Price will officiate and interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice Care Corp., 929 S. Davis Ave., Suite D, Elkins, W.Va. 26241 in memory of Mrs. Bowers.

The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Virginia Tobitha Powers Bowers.
