VIRGINIA CARDER GODDIN OLLIVER, age 96 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Wednesday afternoon, April 13, 2011 at Valentine’s Personal Care Home in Elkins, WV.

She was born Tuesday, November 10, 1914 at Philippi, WV a daughter of the late Albert Noah Carder and Winnie C. Bolton Carder. She was twice married. First to Howard B. Goddin, who preceded her in death. Second, on August 12, 1971 to Ephe M. Olliver, who preceded her in death October 18, 2001.

Surviving are one son, David Judson Goddin, Charleston,WV; and one sister, Betty E. Barrow, Bryans Road, MD.

She is preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Carolyn, four brothers, Leland; William Taylor; Kenneth and Mac Carder and one sister, Lorraine C. Scott.

She attended Alderson & Broaddus College, and the Davis Memorial Hospital School of Practical Nursing. She had worked as an elementary school teacher, a Medical Assistant and a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a member of Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Woman’s Club of Elkins, the Randolph County Senior Center; the Lady Golfers, and the First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Olliver’s request for cremation was honored. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Elkins with the Rev. Barry R. Moll officiating; and immediately following the service, a reception will be held at the Church.
