Virginia Channell 1911-2002 Obituary

Virginia Channell, 91, a resident of 303 Diamond St., Elkins, passed away Monday evening, July 15, 2002, at her home.

She was born Feb. 2, 1911, at Edray, a daughter of the late John Swiger and the late Nettie LeMasters Swiger. She was raised near Becky’s Creek.

On March 27, 1932, she was married to Carl W. Channell, who preceded her in death on April 25, 1988. Mr. and Mrs. Channell met at the Valley Chapel Church, where she sang in the choir.

Also surviving are two sons, Bill Channell and wife, Wanda, and Havard Channell and wife, Carolyn, all of Elkins; five daughters, Thelma Blake, Evelyn Brewster, Betty Kelly and husband, Don, and Donna Teter and husband, Charlie, all of Elkins, and Patty Channell and son, James, of Florida; one brother, Arden Swiger and wife, Ethel, of Elkins; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death were brothers, Allen and Roy Swiger and sisters, Goldie, Clara and Elsie.

She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and greatly enjoyed traveling and spending time with her loved ones. She is loved and sadly missed by all who knew her.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Frank Long officiating. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville.
