Virginia Idell Rowan Reid, 86, a former resident of Holbrook on the Hill in Buckhannon, passed from this life in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Davis Medical Center in Elkins. Virginia was born Friday, July 8, 1927 in Tallmansville, a daughter of the late Junior Claude Rowan and Cora Tenney Rowan. On October 18, 1947, she married Floyd “Jock” Leonard Reid who preceded her in death on May 5, 1993. Left to cherish Virginia’s memory are four children, Claude Calvin Reid and wife, Josie of Kesling Mill, Floyd “Hubert” Reid of Norton, Goldie “Renee” Cvechko and partner, Keith Hannah of Slatyfork, and Ada Marcelia “Marcie” Phillips and husband, Charlie of Mabie, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Virginia in death besides her parents and husband were three sons, Carol Ray Reid, Clarence Leyon Reid, and an infant son, one daughter, Leona Catherine Reid, one grandson, Claude Calvin Reid Rodrigue, five brothers, Tip Gooden, Jim Gooden, Elmer Rowan, Jake Rowan, and Bunt Rowan, five sisters, May Wright, Sarah Hawkins, Imogene Black, Isabell Wright, and Irene Ware. Virginia was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Virginia attended the schools of Upshur County, and studied nursing at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. She had worked as an aide at the Western Reserve Convalescent Nursing Home in Kirtland, OH. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, word puzzles, and playing the piano and organ. She was a Methodist by faith. Virginia’s request for cremation was honored. On Sunday, June 22, 2014, from 1PM until 2:30, there will be a time for receiving friends at the Lion’s Club Kesling Mill Community Building on Kesling Mill Road. A graveside memorial service will follow at 3PM at the Reed Cemetery in Tallmansville. Her nephew, Reverend, William “Billy” Reid will officiate and inurnment will follow.
