Walter Dow “Pinky” Dumire, 85, a former resident of Limestone and a resident of Parsons, departed this life Monday afternoon, Oct. 6, 2003, at his home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to complications of Parkinson’s disease.

He was born May 6, 1918, at Limestone, St. George, the son of the late John Dow Dumire and Messouri Auvil Dumire.

On Dec. 7, 1947, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Gladys G. Harsh, who survives. They celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Surviving are nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by one brother, Willis Dumire; and two sisters, Elizabeth Shaffer and Elva White.

He attended the one-room school at Limestone, graduated from Parsons High School with the class of 1938 and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a disabled veteran.

He was a farmer for more than 30 years. He had a talent for raising polled heifers and Black Angus cattle. He was a noted gardener, loved fishing and was an avid squirrel hunter

The family will receive friends at the Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home today from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home parlor at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Pastor Dick Gadd will officiate and interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows.

The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Walter Dow Dumire.
