Wanda Mae Johnson Swearingen, 68, a resident of Hambleton, departed this life Monday evening, Jan. 27, 2003, at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. She had been in declining health for the past two years and death was attributed to cancer.

She was born March 15, 1934, at Davis, a daughter of the late George Dewey Johnson and Pearl L. Sheets Johnson.

On Aug. 2, 1950, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Jack D. Swearingen Sr., who survives at Hambleton.

Also surviving are one son, Jack D. Swearingen Jr. and wife, Vickie, Mathias; two daughters, Debra Kay Suesli and husband, James J., Hambleton, and Donna Marie Shehan and husband, Kenneth Scott, Springfield, Ky.; one brother, Ronald Johnson, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Dorothy Schooley, Grafton, and Jeannie Bible, Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren, Dustin Suesli, Jesse Suesli, Nathan Swearingen, Shana Suesli, Lance Swearingen, Scott Shehan and Elizabeth Shehan.

She was preceded in death by one infant son, James Harold Swearingen; three brothers, George Jr., Paul and Elwood Johnson; and three sisters, Margaret Martz, Louise Johnson and Evelyn Roby.

She attended the schools at Tucker County. She was employed at the former Tucker County Hospital as a nurse’s aid. She worked for the H.D. Lee & Co. and the former Rockingham Poultry Co-Op at Broadway, Va. She was a volunteer for the Tucker County EMS as an EMT. She was a member of the Parsons Chapter 91 Order of the Eastern Star.

The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Friday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Neil Parsons will officiate and interment will follow at Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Wanda Mae Johnson Swearingen.
