Wilbert Ward Pete Tenney 1911-2002 Obituary

Wilbert Ward “Pete” Tenney, 91, a resident of 18 S. Walnut St., Philippi, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.

He was born Feb. 7, 1911, at Gassaway, a son of the late Okey Blaine and Trottye Ward Tenney.

His wife of 65 years, the former Susan Morrison, whom he married Aug. 10, 1937, survives.

Also surviving are one sister, Dorothy Lea Radabaugh, Volga; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Blaine and William Tenney.

Mr. Tenney was a farmer by profession and in 1966 was grand champion “Farming for Better Living.” He was past president and director of the Barbour County Historical Society. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, West Virginia National Angus Association, chairman of ASCS, director of the Southern States Board, Farmers Home Administration Committee, past president of the Volga Ruritan Club, trustee of Alderson-broaddus College, board of directors of Heart and Hand, member of the Philippi Kiwanis Club and Philippi Chamber of Commerce. He attended the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Stephen Markwood and the Rev. Lejeune Lewis officiating. The Eulogy will be given by Robert “Buck” True. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
