Rev. William “Bill” Lee McCallister, 83, a resident of Elkins, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 29, 2022, from WV Caring’s Hospice Care Center surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born on Wednesday, March 30, 1938, in Kerens, a son of the late Paul R. McCallister and Opal I. Shreves McCallister. On April 17, 1965, he married the love of his life, Nellie M. Bennett McCallister. They had celebrated fifty-six years of marriage.

Also left to cherish Bill’s memory are two sons, William “Billy” L. McCallister and wife, Liz, of Hambleton and Vincent R. McCallister of Elkins, eleven grandchildren, Amy Green and husband, Chad, Crystal Lipscomb, Jeffrey Morgan, Joshua Morgan, Alexis McCallister, Desmon “Desi” McCallister, Madison McCallister, Stephen Plum, Kayla Kalar and husband, James, Sara Currence and husband, John, William McCallister and wife, Dakota, ten great grandchildren, Adley, Zaylynn, and Armani Green, Isaiah and Gavin Cook, Liam Lipscomb, Kendra, Mya, and Gage Kalar, and Kaylin McCallister, his special cousin, Barbara Jane Arbogast, nephew, Howard Hill and wife, Fran, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his one and only daughter, Susette Jo Morgan, a brother, Robert Paul McCallister, and a great granddaughter, Aubrey Marie Green.

Bill attended Elkins High School and had served two years with the United States Army. He was employed for twenty-eight years at Labcraft. In 1978, he followed his calling to become a pastor. His ministry with the Church of God included serving the churches in Flemington, Neola, and Charleston, before spending twenty-one years as pastor of the Bayard Church of God from which he retired in February of 2009. Bill continued his ministry at Elkins Family Worship Center where he often filled in for Pastor Estep, and he led the church’s Kingdom Prayer group during the week.

Bill had much love for his family, friends, community, and church. Bill was a prayer warrior and a fine example of a godly man.

A visitation will be held for family and friends at Elkins Family Worship Center on Wednesday from 5pm until 8pm. Funeral services will be held from the church on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at 11am. Bishop Jamie Estep will officiate with Pastors, Jim Purnell, Todd Rhodes, and John Taylor assisting, and interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens. The McCallister family would like to say a special “Thank You” to the doctors and nurses of the CCU unit at Davis Medical Center and the staff of WV Caring.
