William David ‘Bill’ Swecker Sr 1943-2022 Obituary
William David “Bill” Swecker, Sr., age 78 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, WV.
He was born Monday, September 27, 1943 at Valley Bend, WV a son of the late Joseph Junior and Bertha Evelyn Definbaugh Swecker.
On June 30, 1967 in Binghamton, NY he was married to the former Judith Ann Edwards who preceded him in death March 24, 2012.
Bill is survived by two sons, William David “Bill” Swecker, Jr., and wife Christina of Huttonsville, Vincent Edward Swecker of Georgetown, KY; one daughter, Teresa Ann Swecker of Huntington; three grandchildren, Brenlyn Swecker, Garrett Swecker, and Allison Callicoat; three brothers, Russell Swecker and wife Wanda, Carroll Swecker and wife Lenora, and Joe Swecker and wife Ellen; brother in law, Ray Lawrence; sisters in law, Lois Roma, Sandra Edwards and Elsie Barrett and husband John; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife are two sisters, Evelyn Yoakum and Katherine Lawrence.
Bill was a graduate of Tygart’s Valley High School with the Class of 1961, West Virginia University with the Class of 1966 and the University of New York with the Class of 1971.
He was a Licensed Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor and owned and operated Swecker Engineering for fifty years.
Bill was the driving force behind the reunions for the Tygart’s Valley Class of 1961, a diehard Tygart’s Valley Bulldog, an avid gardener, enjoyed guiding young people towards the engineering field and spending time with family and friends.
He was a loving father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 6 PM Wednesday.
Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 11 AM.
The Reverend Andrew Boley will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville, WV.
