William Paul Shaver 1917-2002 Obituary

William Paul Shaver, 84, a resident of Route 5, Buckhannon, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 2, 2002, at 8 a.m. in the emergency room at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.

Mr. Shaver was born July 3, 1917, at Rosedale, a son of the late Jacob W. and Minnie E. Lowe Shaver.

He was united in marriage on Dec. 24, 1937, to Emily Carol Price Shaver, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Roy (Julia Carol) Bush of Buckhannon, and Mrs. Avon (Jerry Sue) Cox of Vienna; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Patricia Shaver of Buckhannon, and Joseph and Debbie Shaver of Route 5, Buckhannon; and sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Denver (Dora) Hicks of Barricksville; one brother and sister-in-law, Jennings and Annette Shaver of South Field, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Melinda Shaver; five brothers and four sisters.

Mr. Shaver was employed by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement and retired in 1977 as a lieutenant.

He was a veteran of World War II, and served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of the following: Franklin Lodge No. 7 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Parkersburg, Ben Bev at Parkersburg, Nemesis Temple AAONMS of Parkersburg, Upshur County Shrine Club, Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star Parkersburg and Buckhannon.

He was a member of the Liberty of Christ Church of Buckhannon. He attended West Virginia University and a graduate of the State Police Academy.

Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 7 p.m. today, 7:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday, the service hour. Ken Merriett will give the eulogy. The Rev. Mike Westfall, the Rev. Holly Hoover and the Rev. Lester Bolyan will officiate. Buckhannon Post 3663 VFW and Frank Bartlett Post 7 will conduct military rites. The Department of Natural Resources will serve as honorary guard. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
